Department of Asian Studies
The Department is the principal academic unit within the College of Liberal Arts for teaching and research on Asia. The Department offers courses in a number of modern and classical Asian languages, and stresses integrating knowledge of language with the study of history and culture.
Center for East Asian Studies
The Center for East Asian Studies, housed in the Department of Asian Studies, features an interdisciplinary faculty who represent fields including anthropology, political science, literature, language pedagogy, and history, and who specialize in contemporary East Asian cultures, societies, and languages. The Center is committed to encouraging the inclusion of international components for students at UT, as well as promoting awareness of East Asian cultures and societies throughout the campus and in the community.
South Asia Institute
The Institute houses the Title VI National Resource Center for South Asia funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The Institute provides Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) and resources for outreach programs to K-12 schools, post-secondary institutions, business and civic organizations, and the Texas community at large. The Institute also sponsors several major conferences annually and a weekly South Asia Seminar on Thursday afternoons. A central mission of the Institute is to promote the study of South Asian languages.
